Our History
The Flexees® story begins in the early 1900s, when women’s undergarments were still fairly restrictive. Corsets cinched waists to extremes, while bulky petticoats and skirts weighed women down. The Hickory Venus Health Support broke new ground as one of the first girdles designed for comfort as well as shaping. Made by the Hickory Manufacturing Company in North Carolina, it used elastic materials to gently slim the hips and waist.
The 1920s brought lighter, airier fashions and underthings. Formfit Company emerged as a leader in girdles and bras. Their slogan “Say it with Shape” captured the spirit of the times. Undergarments evolved from restrictive to supportive.
Formfit Company and Hickory Manufacturing Company merged in 1958 to create Maidenform, combining their expertise in bras and girdles. Maidenform revolutionized the intimate apparel industry with innovative fabrics like Lycra® spandex. Their shapewear slims and smoothes the figure while remaining virtually invisible under clothing.
In 2011, Maidenform launched the Flexees® line. The brand combines lightweight, flexible fabrics and ingenious designs to shape your body in comfort.
